Excellence: in all activities (research and training) we conduct and in particular our clinical research activities that meet international standards (ICH-GCP guidelines, good clinical practice).

The Congolese foundation for medical research is independent of any political or religious power. Good management based on transparency: The FCRM uses procedures for all of these financial and administrative transactions. It is subject to internal and external audits annually.

Over the years, it has included its history not only in the development of scientific research in the Congo, but also in that of Africa, by its originality, ambition and perhaps its audacity.

The Congolese Foundation for Medical Research was established in November 2008. After noting that the human resources and existing infrastructure (labs, libraries, etc.) were very insufficient to enable the emergence and development of high-level Congolese researchers, individuals interested in developing scientific research and public health, in general, and nationals of the Congo-Brazzaville, in particular, decided to implement this tool, the Congolese Foundation for Medical Research (FCRM), in order to be a further support for research, public health and higher education in that country.

nbsp; In 2008, we started with only one white leaf. The Foundation had no financial resources, just a very strong motivation, the ability to write and submit proposals for funding. We started in a small room at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Marien Ngouabi University. Seventeen years later, the Foundation has spacious and well equipped premises for its administration and research activities. The many people trained, the scientific publications and the awards received testify to what we have already achieved in Congo," says Professor Francine Ntoumi.

The Congolese Medical Research Foundation is administered by a Board of Directors composed of founding members, several individuals recognized for their skills and morality. The Director General is appointed by the Board of Directors. Daily management is supervised by the Director General with an operational team. Financial accounts are subject to an annual independent financial audit.

 

The objectives of the FCRM are:

• To conduct research on infectious diseases of public health interest in Congo-Brazzaville 

To conduct training activities for students and health personnel;

To advocate for greater support for health research;

To provide quality care to a vulnerable population.

Three sites host FCRM activities. These include: (1) the infectious disease research centre hosting the BSL3 laboratory, laboratories of molecular biology, immunology, parasitology  (2) a health facility consisting of a clinical research centre, a medical laboratory and consultation centre, and (3) an administrative and financial unit.

 

The established research groups are:

• Research Group: Immunology and Molecular Epidemiology of Parasitic Infections (GIEMIP)

Research Group 2: Genomics and Antimicrobial Resistance of Bacteria and Viruses Research Group 3: Research and Studies Group: Medicine, Social Sciences and Culture in Africa (GERMESSCA).
